Setting the Ink Usage Control
Save ink by reducing the amount of black ink that is used or by specifying the ink tanks you want to use from the ink tanks that are attached.
Select Print settings from the Printer settings on the Remote UI
If necessary, complete the following settings:
- Save black ink

Controls the consumption of black ink during printing. This function allows you to save black ink.
When using this function, select Plain Paper in Media Type in the print dialog, and set Normal in Quality.Important
- The Save black ink function does not work when:
- A type of paper other than Plain Paper is selected from the Media Type menu in the Print dialog.
- "XXX (Borderless)" is selected from the Paper Size menu in the Print dialog.
- If Color only is selected in Force ink tank selection.
- The Save black ink function does not work when:
- Force ink tank selection

Specify the ink tank to be used from the installed ink tanks.
Select from All ink tanks, Color only, and Black only.Important
- When the following settings are specified, Black only does not function because the printer uses color ink tanks to print documents.
- Other than Plain Paper, Envelope, IJ Hagaki (A), Hagaki K (A), Hagaki (A), or Hagaki is selected for Media Type in the Print dialog.
- "XXX (Borderless)" is selected from the Paper Size menu in the Print dialog.
- Do not detach the ink tank that is not in use. Printing cannot be performed while an ink tank is detached.
Note
- If you turn the power off on the printer, the settings will be initialized, and reverted back to All ink tanks.
- When the following settings are specified, Black only does not function because the printer uses color ink tanks to print documents.
Apply the settings
Click OK.
The printer will operate with the modified settings going forward.
